Bookmobile Services Temporarily Suspended for Essential Repairs
Beginning Tuesday, December 5 2023, bookmobile services from Baker County Library District are temporary suspended for approximately eight weeks to complete essential repairs caused by wear and tear over the years. With 385,000 miles logged over 20 years, significant maintenance is required to ensure the continued reliability and safety of this community asset.
The scope of the repairs includes a complete rebuild or replacement of the engine, and overhaul of the transmission, clutch assembly, and suspension systems. These measures are aimed at extending the bookmobile's lifespan and maintaining its efficiency in delivering library services to various locations throughout Baker County, including Oxbow, Medical Springs, Keating, Unity, and several senior living facilities in Baker City. Funding will be drawn from the district’s Reserve Fund for Capital Investments.
While we understand the impact and inconvenience of this temporary suspension on the community, these repairs will ensure the bookmobile remains operational for continued service for years to come. Baker County Library District will keep the community updated on the progress of the repairs and the expected timeline for the resumption of bookmobile services. In the meantime, we encourage patrons to visit a Baker County library branch in Baker City, Haines, Halfway, Huntington, Richland, or Sumpter--or access our digital collections for reading and resource needs from anywhere at any time.
