Getting a card, renewing materials, placing holds, etc.
Who can get a card
An individual who lives in or owns property in Baker County may be issued a library card.
How to Get Your Card
A person's first library card is free for eligible borrowers. To qualify for a library card, one must be able to provide acceptable Photo ID and proof of residency documentation (see below for details). Property owners may present proof of ownership such as a county tax statement for full borrowing privileges. If unavailable, library staff
may be able to verify residency by searching Property Databases of regional County Assessors online.

The replacement charge for a lost card is $2.00.
Acceptable ID and residency documentation follows the standards set by the Department of Motor Vehicles [click here] such as valid Driver License or ID card, Passport, Military ID, Concealed Weapon Permit, Tribal ID Card, or documentation from the Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS).
Proof of Residency must be verified with Acceptable Residence Documents as listed here.Applicants with non-Oregon photo ID will be provided an account with 2-item checkout limit. The limit may be waived with proof of current Baker County employment plus residency documents, proof of Baker County property ownership, or proof of a long-term lease agreement (6 mo. minimum). Library staff will request Photo ID or proof of residency every 12 months for these accounts.
NON-RESIDENTS
Non-resident cards
are available for a fee for periods up to one year for individuals who reside outside of Baker County and do not own
property in Baker County or any other Sage Member Library area.
Not-resident cards are also an option for out-of-county residents under the jurisdiction of a partner Sage library but wishing to have the added value of a BCLD card. i.e. access to more online materials through special databases subscribed to by BCLD, such as downloadable audiobooks, eBooks, and videos through Library2Go, access to genealogy records through the Heritage Quest database, auto repair manuals, maps and more. Non-resident cards are available for four time period options, depending on one's needs. Charges are set to approximate the average amount paid into the library district by a Baker County household and are non-refundable.
$10.00 -- valid for 1 month,
limited 2 item maximum checkout, includes access to subscription
databases. Fee allows ONE additional account for spouse or dependent at
same household..
$20.00 -- valid for 3 months,
limited 6 item maximum checkout, includes access to subscription
databases. Fee allows TWO additional accounts for spouse or dependents
at same household.
$40.00 -- valid for 6 months,
limited 12 item maximum checkout, includes access to subscription
databases. Fee allows THREE additional accounts for spouse or dependents
at same household.
$60.00 -- valid for 12 months,
regular borrowing privileges, includes access to subscription
databases. Fee allows FOUR additional accounts for spouse or dependents
at same household.
Borrowing Limits
Regular members may borrow up to 35 items at one time. Film media such as DVDs and VHS are limited to a combined
10 items out at one time.
Loan periods: 3 weeks for items of any format.
INTERLIBRARY LOAN items must be returned to any Baker County Library branch by their due date. ILL Renewals: one phone or online renewal is allowed. Additional renewals may be granted with in person requests; books on reserve for other patrons may not be renewed.
Placing Holds
Holds may be placed by calling the library, submitting a form to library staff, or online through the Sage Catalog. Valid borrowers may have a maximum of 9 holds at one time. Hold placement and retrieval is blocked if account fines are $5.00 or over.
Renewing Your Borrowed Items
Items may be renewed up to 2 times by calling the library or by logging onto your patron account on the online Sage Catalog.
Library Fines
All borrowers are
responsible for fines and lost or damaged materials. If a card is lost or stolen, members should notify the
library immediately so a block can be placed on use of the account.
Unless this is done, members may be held responsible for items checked
out to their account.
Regular fines: 20 cents per day per item, accruing from due date; the maximum fine per item is $5.00. Library check out privileges will be restricted when fines reach $5 dollars. Public Computer access will be blocked when fines reach $40.01.
Lost Items
Lost materials are charged for full replacement cost, including additional fees to reimburse the library for recovery time & processing labor & materials.euismod mollis.
